Jobless claims jump to 5-month high + Trend Higher

[mEDITate-OR:
think that it was fun, while it lasted...

What we see in these charts is quite different...
even though the data is the same.
AP shows U.S. from peak to now.
So does RTT but they compress it, some.
NYT shows the same flat chart as last month & prior 8

The last chart from SeekingAlpha shows it from when the bottom fell out in Aug 08.

Pick the one you like.

How states fared on jobless claims, at a glance
By The Associated Press (AP) – 9 hours ago
New applications for unemployment benefits rose last week to their highest level since February, the Labor Department said Thursday. It's the latest evidence of a weakening economy and a sign that some employers are still cutting their staffs.
Here's a look at the states with the biggest changes in initial jobless claims, and some of the reasons for the shifts. The state data is for the week ending July 31, one week behind the nationwide figures.
States reporting the largest increases in claims:
Wisconsin: Up 1,901
Georgia: Up 1,738, due to layoffs in the construction, trade and manufacturing industries
Pennsylvania: Up 1,536, due to layoffs in the trade and service industries
Ohio: Up 1,188, due to layoffs in manufacturing
New York: Up 1,159, due to layoffs in construction, trade and services
States reporting the largest decreases in claims:
Indiana: Down 4,377
Florida: Down 3,816, due to fewer layoffs in construction, trade, services, manufacturing and agriculture
Tennessee: Down 2,465, due to fewer layoffs in trade, service and transportation equipment industries
Illinois: Down 2,056, due to fewer layoffs in construction, trade and manufacturing
Kentucky: Down 1,567
